Therapeutic Massage

If a client is experiencing pain from repetitive stress or a limited range of motion, a therapeutic massage may help to relieve tension and even increase mobility. I use a combination of trigger point therapy, myo-fascial release, deep tissue, PNF stretches and counter-resistance techniques to help relieve a client's discomfort and improve his or her range of motion. (Proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation, PNF, uses active stretching and recprocol inibition to increase flexibility and coordinate syngergism between agonist and antagonist muscle groups.)

Traditional Swedish Massage

The Swedish massage is a full body relaxation massage. As a result of releasing the body's natural mood stablizers, serotonin and dopamine, massage therapy can help reduce depression and anxiety. Massage therapy also stimulates the circulatory and lymphatic systems. The circulatory system is responsible for replenishing the body's tissues with nutrients and oxygen, while the lymphatic system removes waste from the blood. I use a variation of nurturing strokes to help my client rest and relax. The focus tends to be less specific and more general. Pressure can be adjusted and attention can be modified. If you need to wind down at the end of a stressful day or take a little time out for yourself, this is a great way to regroup.

(Available in 60 minute and 90 minute appointments.)

Prenatal Massage

If you or someone you know is expecting, schedule an appointment for a prenatal massage. A client beyond her first trimester may choose to receive her massage sideline (as shown here) or with a prenatal body pillow. During a prenatal massage, I used a combination of rocking, effleurage, compression, myo-facsial release, trigger point therapy (conservatively), and petrissage to help a client rest and relax. Pregnancy often causes a woman to experience discomfort in her lower back and upper shoulders. If she has recently given birth and is currently nursing, the posture creates tention in her anterior shoulder girdle. Frequently this can cause discomfort in her neck and posterior shoulders, at times leading to migrains. A massage not only helps relieve stress in her physical body, it also provides a mother with the comfort and nuture she needs during an emotionally demanding time. A prenatal massage can improve her sleep and decrease swelling.
